Xarelto, also known as rivaroxaban, is a blood thinner that is used to reduce the risk of strokes, prevent the formation of blood clots, and treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which can ultimately lead to a pulmonary embolism, a blood clot in the lungs.
Since 2011, when the FDA first approved Xarelto, the manufacture pharmaceutical companies, Bayer AG and Janssen Pharmaceuticals (a Johnson and Johnson’s subsidiary), have made millions of dollars by selling Xarelto, however thousands of people have been gravely injured by Xarelto’s adverse side effects. Patients claimed that they were not properly warned about the faulty drug’s risks, which include uncontrollable and irreversible internal bleeding, to which there is no effective antidote available. In May 2016, Safety Labeling Changes for Xarelto were approved by FDA Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER).
